The origin of this beautiful art dates back to 5th century BC, place of origin being Raghurajpur in Puri district. The literal meaning of the word can be divided into two parts “Patta” means “cloth base” and “Chitra” means “picture”. The paintings depicting the age old mythology characters of Orisha temples, all of them have their own tales to tell. Each painting is a network of many detailed finely made pictures.
