Engulfed as we were with both, darkness and calmness with our breaths heavy with eagerness and anxiety piercing the thicket around us, we suddenly heard that familiar sound of tick-tock tick-tock which was very sudden and untimely music at this time of the hour from our old buddy the beloved Mr. woodpecker, we froze and still with our breaths, and listened that familiar untimely music I reached for my friends hand and held it tight in excitement and waited eagerly…!!!
The first tick-tock was almost inaudible and then it was all but deafening silence.
Then after few moments the woodpecker got busy doing, very untimely we exclaimed but then it had been our most desired sound to be heard off from so long and our wish was fulfilled—–to listen to the woodpeckers music heightening the calmness in the wood…! The gods of the woods or rather let me put it in another form and say the wood-gods have just granted our wish. We just found a huge boulder and sat on it absorbing the silent sound of pitch darkness.
In the process although and losing ourselves in the trance and even allowing the twig to burn out and push us in to fathomless total darkness.
The woodpecker, however by all means kept playing his music, giving us company and also assuring inevitably that we are not alone in this part of the world at this weird hour and that someone else is also as lunatic as we were and that another soul is there to accompany us.
In a matter of couple of hours, silvery moonlight started filtering through the thick canopy overhead and made the moment look much more easier and visibility was something more than what we had expected and again reassuring that there is some else too to join hands in our utter madness and assisted us to make our way out of the woods just safe and sound.
But as we spent those few hours in the woods all in a virgin crew with nature PB SHEELY’S poem gave us company and made us more eager to listen to the sounds of silence and see in darkness and see vibgyor shades of darkness.
Thus this unforgettable day/night or so as to say those precious hours that we spend in the lap of Mother Nature curled around in the blanket of calm, silent colorful darkness, wish now to spend every night in the woods and if given a chance try to be with nature whenever possible, this is humble request to all you globe trotters to be with the nature from where your belongings are and your ultimate nest where you will return to in the peaceful solitude, that’s life…
