As with the further proceedings of Ganesh puja preparations the making of idol plays a very crucial role spreading the message to use biodegradable products avoiding toxic byproducts into the fresh water sources, to propagate the thought to ‘save nature save us’.
Glucose Club went in to the premises of the workshop where statues are in the first steps of making and even had a face to face talk with the murtikar (idol maker) Mr. Kailash Prajapati, and his helper Mr. Burman too who all are doing this from last twenty years and his forefathers has also done this since time immemorial to my surprise they very much agreed to my thought process and even people from Maharashtra, and other neighboring states order plain clay idols for their sarwajanik/personal puja and avoid the Plaster Of Paris (POP) one’s.
To begin with they start with a basic structure made out of bamboo and on that hay and straw is tied giving a particular shape, the primary shape takes place here and on that clay from Ma Narmada river is laid on different layers and let it dry it is smoothened up by rubbing the surfaces and leveling it few many layers and touch up is done and let them dry in sun but it’s horrible when rain starts making make shift tents and under the fans or ceiling fans are used to dry the idols, followed by a primary coating of a white base colour after drying followed by different array of colours to give that perfect hue and then the basic and final touchups are done thus beautifying the ultimate much more detailing is done imparting a very lively look to the final outcome, gave Glucose Club immense satisfaction to learn these details.
