Rodgers set to release £7.5m title winning forward, ideal for Celtic

Celtic should consider a move for Leicester City attacker.

Celtic should be paying attention to a move made by Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City.

The Foxes are set to release striker Shinji Okazaki as they look to build for the future, The Telegraph report.

Signed for £7.5 million and available on a free from July, here’s a look at why Celtic should consider a move…

He’s a winner

Celtic are a team full of champions. Okazaki has been there and done it too.

He was an integral part of Leicester’s 2015/16 Premier League winning team, scoring important goals.

He would not be daunted by the pressure at Celtic.

Would be a fan favourite

Okazaki’s workrate would make him a fan favourite at Celtic.

He often came off the bench to turn games in Leicester’s favour, and his attitude endeared him to supporters.

He is true professional who could follow in the footsteps of Shunsuke Nakamura, his compatriot who once lit up Celtic Park.

Upgrade on Burke?

Celtic have experimented with loanee Oliver Burke this season both out wide and up front.

Neither have worked particularly well, and West Brom want an eight-figure fee for his signature.

He really is not worth the expenditure, when a player like Okazaki could be added for free.

European and international experience

Okazaki may be 33, but with him he brings vital experience to the table which players like Burke do not.

He featured for Leicester in their Champions League run past the group stages to the last 16 before being knocked out by Atletico Madrid.

Okazaki has 116 caps for Japan and 50 goals, and this is a record which suggests Okazaki could thrive at Celtic.
