“Not right to treat someone like that” – Player not happy with treatment at Leeds United

Former Leeds United forward Marcus Antonsson has spoken to the Swedish media about his time with the Championship side and has revealed he had the backing of his teammates despite the way the he was being treating by the club.

The Swede was sold to Malmo in 2018 and he’s impressed for the club since arrival.

Speaking to Fotbollskanalen podcast Lundh, Antonsson was asked how he was treated during his time at Leeds United before his loan move to Blackburn Rovers:

“Then I felt a support from the players, that they were annoyed and irritated at what the club was doing. It’s not right to treat someone like that. Cohesion is absolutely good in such situations, I experienced that anyway.”

He added on his move to Ewood Park:

“Absolutely. At the same time, I was not surprised, because they changed owners and sports manager. I forgot to mention it before, I was Cellino’s guy, I was his signing. I wasn’t the coach’s choice, which I thought from the beginning.”

Antonsson has been in impressive form for Uwe Rosler’s team since his arrival, scoring some important goals for the Swedish club.

It’s been his displays in the Europa League which have caught the eye, and his winning goal against Besiktas in December secured a knockout tie against Chelsea.

His performances for Malmo have brought him to the attention of other clubs with claims last week Bundesliga sides are taking an interest and will watch him against Chelsea on Thursday.

His performances for Malmo are in total contrast to his time at Elland Road where he struggled to make any real impact.

The player made just a handful of appearances in his debut season with Leeds United and subsequently was loaned out to Blackburn Rovers in the last campaign.
